LETTERS FROM A WAR ZONE
A visceral description of patriarchy. Its anger burns the page, leaving the reader despairing but inspired.
I well remember reading this book and moving from saying “this cannot be true” to saying “this must no longer be true”. Sadly its themes of trafficking, pornography, rape and oppression are as relevant now as when the book was written.
MAKING COCOA FOR KINGSLEY AMIS
These poems find humour in the every day. Seeing our own absurdities is essential for a good life. I especially enjoyed this verse:
Cuddling the new telephone directory
after I found your name in it
was going too far.
It’s a safe bet you’re not hugging a phone book,
Where ever you are.
