Along with his inaugural lecture and his fabulous collaboration with Tony Honoré in Causation in the Law he introduced a new discipline into the way I thought about the law. It is hard now to recreate the sense of difference which these writings made to legal thinking at the time.
HISTORICAL FOUNDATIONS OF THE COMMON LAW
This was the most imaginative evaluative rethink of the story of the common law backed up by serious scholarship since the 19th century and it challenged our way of looking at the evolution of legal concepts over the best part of a millennium.
